MAGU LADIES BASKETBALL TEAM SCOOP 2ND PLACE IN MO626 COLLEGE BASKETBALL

The exciting as well as thrilling journey of the National Bank MO626 College Basketball Tournament ended this last weekend on the 6th of April, 2019. The highly competitive tournament semifinals and finals were held at Chancellor College in the Eastern city of Zomba. A total of eight teams battled it out to find a spot into the finals. The teams in semifinals in the men’s segment were; MAGU Wolves, CHANCO Hawks, MCA Lilongwe and Polytechnic and in the women’s segment, MAGU She Wolves, Bunda, ZIMA and Polytechnic. The SEMI Finals were played on Friday the 5th of April. MAGU She Wolves qualified for the finals after beating Bunda 56 to 48. This win ushered them to face ZIMA in the Finals. In the other semifinal match ZIMA defeated Polytechnic to reach the final stage of the tournament. The final game which was very intense was played on the 6th of April between the MAGU She Wolves and ZIMA. MAGU fought very hard employed their usual tactics of teamwork and handwork with some quality basketball from their Star players. The final score of the match saw MAGU She Wolves losing the game 62 to 56 securing them a second place in the tournament. On the other hand MAGU Wolves (Men) lost their semifinal game to MCA LL. This pushed the team to saddle their boots and prepare to fight for the third place for the bronze medal. The fight for the third place was on against Polytechnic, the Wolves lost the game with only a single basket. The final results of the men’s side saw MCA LL retaining their title as National Bank Mo626 Champions for the second time, winning the cup back to back and ZIMA were the champions on the ladies side. CHANCO scoped the second place for the men’s segment. The third place for the men’s side was scoped by Polytechnic and for the ladies segment third place was scoped by Bunda. The MAGU Vice Chancellor together with the members of the administration wishes to congratulate the MAGU She Wolves for the gallant and wonderful fight they displayed in the tournament. MAGU family remains proud of the achievements of both MAGU Wolves and She Wolves in the tournament.
